Is Not About Me

December 2010 was the month of giving and sharing for BMS. Employees of BMS devised various means to collect funds for the Assunta Children Society (ASC) from collecting cash donations to selling food and trinkets to family and friends.

Besides that, several activities were organised for the children. One of which was a Day Out event with the children from ACS. Prior to this, talks on Hygiene and First Aid had been carried out at the centre amidst a medley of games and group presentations.

During the Day Out event, 23 children arrived at the office, all donned in the bright cheerful "Is Not About Me" t-shirts that had been specially designed for then. After a movie viewing, the children enjoyed Iced Chocolate and Muffins which were sponsored by Starbucks. This was followed by lunch at a KFC outlet and then they were presented with their gifts that the employees had bought for them (based on their wish lists).

The children in turn put up a cultural dance as a token of appreciation to the employees. After that, they were treated to a Bowling Session which saw the children squealing with delight and most could not wait to start throwing/rolling the balls.

Some employees made Balloon Sculptures and applied temporary tattoos on the children.  One of the boys was overheard telling his friend, "this is the best day I have ever had!".  That, alone made this event a truly meaningful one as the joy is from the giving, not the receiving.

About ACS
ACS is a centre that caters for 50 children from underprivileged families, mostly from the nearby Kampung Medan area in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Sister Angela Wong from the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary runs the children’s home. The children do not stay there but they have meals there and the nuns put in place a study routine for them. The objective of the ACS is to equip the children with better education so that they can have a better life.
