B. Braun Medical Industries Sdn. Bhd. [Company registration number: 197401001922 (19051–M)] (BMI) is a subsidiary of B. Braun Melsungen AG, Germany, and is one of the largest medical devices companies in the world.

Established in 1972, B. Braun Medical Industries in Penang is the group’s first manufacturing site in Asia Pacific region and it is one of the largest B. Braun manufacturing sites for the group outside Europe. 

Since its inception in 1972, B. Braun Medical Industries Sdn. Bhd. [Company registration number: 197401001922 (19051–M)] has invested more than MYR2 billion in the manufacturing facilities in Malaysia. An investment of MYR 1.75 billion was announced in year 2010, the largest ever in the medical devices industry in the country.  With more than 7,000 employees, the plant located in Penang is among the largest manufacturers of medical, surgical and pharmaceutical products not only in Malaysia but also in the region. 

Center of Excellence for Intravenous Access Products (CoE IVA) 

B. Braun Medical Industries Sdn. Bhd. [Company registration number: 197401001922 (19051–M)] Penang Plant was recognized as the global Center of Excellence for Intravenous Access (CoE IVA) products including R&D and production technology.  Headed by Dr. Juergen Schloesser, Senior Vice President Operations & CoE IVA, the team is dedicated to develop and manufacture safety products and systems like IV catheters (IVC), scalp vein sets (SVS) and hypodermic needles.  

B. Braun Medical Industries Sdn. Bhd. [Company registration number: 197401001922 (19051–M)] was also awarded the International Procurement Centre (IPC) status by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), which would allows procurement and sale of raw materials, components and finished products to companies within the region.  Products manufactured in B. Braun Medical Industries Penang are exported to the US, Japan, Germany and several major markets around the world.
