More than 3,700 students from 54 schools have explored the world of genetics through the programme since 2022
Bayan Lepas, Penang – B. Braun Medical Industries Sdn. Bhd. (BMI), in partnership with the Penang Science Cluster (PSC), proudly announces the continuation and expansion of the B. Braun Genetics Kit programme for 2025–2026, marked by a symbolic handover at the recent Penang International Science Fair.
Empowering the Next Generation of Scientists
Since 2022, the B. Braun Genetics Kit initiative has reached 3,739 students from across 54 schools, igniting a 95% surge in student interest in genetics, from before they participated in the programme. The programme’s hands-on approach—praised by both educators and students—has made complex scientific concepts accessible, engaging, and relevant to real-world challenges.
Innovative, Relevant, and Aligned with School Syllabi
The 2025–2026 edition introduces new modules and activities, including:
This is in addition to its popular DNA Extraction experiment and Karyotyping activity. These four activities are carefully mapped to the Malaysian school syllabus, supporting both lower and upper secondary students and enhancing laboratory skills, scientific literacy, and critical thinking.
Sustainable Investment in Science Education
To further enrich the learning experience, B. Braun is investing in advanced light microscopes, enabling clearer, more detailed observations for the experiments. Each participating school will receive microscopes on loan, ensuring hands-on access for all. This sustainable approach transforms equipment into long-term assets for ongoing STEM education.
A Model for Industry-Education Partnership
“At B. Braun, we believe that education is the foundation of innovation. By expanding the Genetics Kit programme with new modules and advanced equipment, we are equipping students with the skills and curiosity to shape the future of healthcare and science. Our partnership with the Penang Science Cluster exemplifies how industry and education can work together to inspire and empower the next generation, while helping build a strong talent pipeline for the long term,” said Dr. Fu Yongji, Vice President, Head of Research & Development, BMI, at the symbolic handover of the latest batch of Genetic Kits, at the Penang International Science Fair recently.
Dato' Ooi Peng Ee, CEO, Penang Science Cluster, added: “The B. Braun Genetics Kit programme has given students an exciting, hands-on way to explore genetics, helping them understand real scientific concepts through practical experiments. We are deeply grateful to B. Braun for providing this meaningful opportunity that inspires curiosity and nurtures the next generation of young scientists.”
Looking Ahead
The 2025–2026 programme will roll out to 32 schools, benefiting approximately 1,600 students over a period of seven months. Activities include Train-the-Trainer workshops, kit distribution, and immersive genetics workshops at B. Braun, culminating in student-led reports and knowledge sharing.
