BAYAN LEPAS, February 28, 2024 – B. Braun Medical Industries Sdn. Bhd. (BMI), a leading medical technology company, proudly underscores its commitment to social responsibility through the successful execution of its Orang Asli Outreach Programme. Carried out in collaboration with HOPE Worldwide Malaysia, a local non-profit organisation, the programme is designed to help uplift the Orang Asli Community in Desa Ria, Gerik, Perak. This programme is a significant component of BMI’s overarching Charity Run initiative, reflecting the company’s steadfast dedication to corporate social responsibility.
40 volunteers, comprising 28 BMI employees and 12 HOPE Worldwide representatives, volunteer nurses and pharmacists, travelled over 350km from Penang to the remote village of Desa Ria, located deep in the interiors of Gerik, Perak. The primary objective was to deliver much-needed relief and supplies, including essential healthcare support and food aid. A mobile clinic, offering basic medical check-ups and dispensing necessary medications was also established to cater to the healthcare needs of the community.
B. Braun volunteers took this opportunity to share their expertise on hand hygiene by promoting awareness to the families there. The tailor-made handwashing session, with a focus on children, emphasized the significance of maintaining clean hands before meals or after using the toilet to effectively protect themselves from preventable illnesses. This is also in line with B. Braun’s vision of protecting and improving the health of people around the world.
BMI’s commitment to community welfare, especially marginalised groups, is evident through this partnership with HOPE Worldwide. This collaboration stems from the annual BMI Charity Run, where HOPE Worldwide is one of the fund recipients. BMI had previously collaborated with HOPE Worldwide in 2019 before the onset of the pandemic.
The Orang Asli Outreach Programme represents a shared commitment between the Company and its employees, to generate a positive impact on the local community and its stakeholders. Drawing on its expertise in healthcare, B. Braun remains steadfast in collaborating with various stakeholders, to complement access to the local healthcare systems.
