Interactive workshops focus on carbon footprint reduction while cultivating a passion for STEM education
Bayan Lepas, Penang – B. Braun Medical Industries, a leading global medical technology company, reaffirms its dedication to education and environmental responsibility at the Penang International Science Fair (PISF) 2024. Through a series of hands-on workshops over the weekend, B. Braun aims to cultivate a passion for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) among youths while equipping them with problem-solving skills, creativity and an awareness of environmental responsibility to safeguard future generations.
Lam Chee Hong, President, Asia Pacific, B. Braun said: “B. Braun is committed to empowering the next generation of changemakers and problem-solvers through active learning. PISF has proven to be an ideal platform for our youths to turn their ideas and inspirations into reality. As a founding member and in collaboration with the Penang Science Cluster, we are dedicated to investing in STEM education, fostering innovation and building a talent pipeline who will drive growth for both the state and nation.”
Since its inception in 2011, B. Braun has been a Pillar Lead in Life Sciences for the Penang Science Cluster, the organisers of PISF. B. Braun’s support has grown year after year, continuing even through the pandemic.
This year, B. Braun expanded its involvement by sponsoring two schools, SMK Sacred Heart and SMK Bukit Jambul, in the Advanced MakerLab programme. The programme equips students with critical STEM skills such as coding, 3D design and 3D printing. Students, guided by B. Braun mentors from the Research & Development Division, showcased their innovative prototypes at PISF impressing visitors with their ability to communicate complex ideas. This activity complemented B. Braun’s main workshop, which focused on carbon footprint reduction. Primary school students learned how food choices can reduce one’s carbon footprint, while secondary school students explored a hospital’s Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) to see how B. Braun helps ensure safe and efficient healthcare practices, while upholding environmental responsibility.
B. Braun’s continued engagement with PISF reflects its belief in the power of education to drive positive change and inspire the next generation to tackle both industry challenges and environmental issues.
